Allergy is a disorder of the immune system. More specifically, the allergy is a form of hypersensitivity and is characterized by activated some white blood cells by certain antibodies called IgE (immunoglobulin E) that react excessively to certain substances known as allergens thus triggering an inflammatory response. Allergic reactions are common eczema, hives, hay fever, asthma, food intolerances, and reactions to insect stings.

Allergy development may be linked to two major risk factors:
Factors related to the host, ie, genetic factors such as heredity, sex, race, age
Environmental factors such as exposure to infectious diseases during childhood, environmental pollution, high levels of allergens, or changes of diet
